survival series

Pests and disease

mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers , snakebites, hantavirus, pneumonic plague, bubonic plague, smallpox, anthrax , dengue fever, yellow fever, cholera, typhus, typhoid. blood poisoning, rabies , allergies, common cold, hayfever. lockjaw (tetanus) montezumas revenge .

all of these have a single thing in common. you don't want them in your camp. I sure as hell dont want them in mine. ,

in the midwest and arid states the diseases are bad, hanta , plague and others are there .
rabies, its a big problem with foxes , skunks and raccoons and possums dogs and cats

keep in mind in a shit hits the fan scenario, you won't have access to lifesaving vaccines
obviously unless you are near a US military base and or a major hospital.
you'll be on your own. keep up to date with your shots. you can die in a week from tetanus
and its a very nasty way to die..

check out survivalcache.com online. there are links articles and books to find there that teach you some of the basics to more advanced techniques from all over the world.

older and wiser

okay this is for those who think their way is the only way.
im an old fart. granted i have been around a while and i have learned a few lessons in my lifetime . i've also learned a lot about people and things. i was born when man first went into space. now its an everyday thing to hear about a space mission.
okay my point is this. i love my family where ever they are. i just don't like them all the time.
im a conservative , realistically and politically. i do not believe abortion is right, and i strongly support the death penalty for those crimes that deserve it. I do not believe in prisoners rights.
and i do not believe in big government bailing out corporations that pay no taxes GE?
i believe in the american fighting man and woman. i served with some of the finest people
that ever served in my days . i have a special place in my heart for vets, being a vet makes you special. So i drive a toyota truck every now and then. it gets good gas mileage and is reliable
so maybe there is hope for me.
there was a time when we were safe in our homes, but that time has passed. we have to lock ourselves in . corrupt government is all over the place. and here it comes.

we are in deep trouble in this world. we have enemies that want us all dead. that is not a paranoid statement , especially if it is true. there are idiots who think the only way to do things in this world are by violent methods and by suppressing the rights of the citizens.
they are on their way out. freedom has a nice feel to it. and im not going to give up my freedom for abunch of gun grabbing politicos who think the only way to solve crime is to make guns illegal . it doesnt work that way. it never has and it never will.
end of my rant

weather and survival

wow, for a few weeks we have had some really strong storms in this area. tornadoes all around us, downtown was hit last week by a tornado and tore roofs off of buildings and we had shingles and siding here at my place go bye bye. earlier today we had two cells, and two cells yesterday come through dropping trees and over 3 inches of combined rain. and in the 90s on monday forecasted. so weather plays a role in being outside. thunderstorms with fierce lightning kills on average 6 people a year in north carolina. the highest in the nation . i think this is due to the golf courses we have and the rich retirees that flock to them. only a guess on my part.
lightning , static buildup and discharge . millions of volts, and temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun .. scary isnt it?
lightning can travel 90 miles and strike an object even in blue sky (aka the bolt out of the blue) and can kill. my advise, stay indoors away from electonics, away from metal doors and out of the bathtub or shower unless you are hunkered down for a tornado, then the bathtub is probably your safest place to be covered in pillows or a mattress.
get a weather radio if you are going to be out. radio shack has them cheap.

addendum

sewing kits are inexpensive and worth their weight in gold in the wild. so are adhesive glue
that are toluene based . super glue also. you should include these articles in with your first aid kit

so recently i got a .177 crosman air rifle . its handy . last night the 410 shotgun took out a coon
that had gotten into the dog area causing trouble . dispatched with 2 rifled slugs. rabies is a big problem with coons in this area. one less coon to worry about

now i have to spend money to have the rabies booster for my dogs ..big rip off for a shot
